A personal tag does not replace the airline label
At check-in, the carrier attaches a routing label to checked luggage. A personal luggage tag serves a different purpose: it provides the owner's contact details if the suitcase goes astray or is found outside the carrier's system. It does not track the bag or guarantee its return, but it gives the finder a straightforward way to contact you.
A distinctive color or print can also make a suitcase easier to recognize on the reclaim carousel. This is particularly useful for black, grey and dark blue cases that look similar. An external tag may still be damaged or detached, so keep the baggage receipt separately and photograph the suitcase before checking it in.
Provide enough contact information, but no more
Fill in the card clearly and review it before every trip. For international travel, write the telephone number with its country code. A useful basic set of details is:
- the owner's first and last name;
- a current telephone number;
- an email address as an alternative contact method.
A passport number, identification details and a full home address do not belong on an external card. If the design has a flap or lets the insert face the suitcase, the personal information is less exposed to casual view. Make sure the writing remains legible and allow the ink to dry completely.
It is also useful to place a second card with the same contact details inside the bag. This provides a backup if the external tag is lost. It complements rather than replaces the carrier's routing label and the baggage receipt containing the registered bag number.
Check the fastening and format on the actual suitcase
The Koffer.UA range includes individual luggage tags and two-piece sets, PVC and genuine leather designs, and both solid colors and prints. A bright design acts as a visual marker, while a restrained one is easier to pair with a suitcase for business travel. Check the selected product page for its material, dimensions, set contents and fastening method.
Before ordering, consider the size of the contact field and whether the strap or loop fits around a fixed handle on the suitcase or travel bag. The tag should not obstruct the telescopic handle, hang close to the wheels or slip easily through its fastening. Once fitted, tug it gently in several directions and check that the closure stays secure.
A set is practical for two suitcases, a family trip or a spare tag. Before the next journey, inspect the fastening, update the telephone number or email address when contacts change, and replace the insert if the writing is no longer clear.
