Manual or semi-automatic
A stick umbrella does not have to be fully manual.
A manual model is opened and closed by hand. On a semi-automatic umbrella, a button opens the canopy, while closing is done manually.
The mechanism only changes how the umbrella opens. The shaft remains full-length in both cases.
What matters in windy weather
The number of ribs alone does not tell you how well an umbrella will handle a strong gust.
It is better to check the frame and rib materials, whether the model has a wind-resistant system, and whether it uses a double canopy. These details can vary even between umbrellas that look very similar.
