The lightweight umbrellas in this category weigh up to 300 g. They add less weight to a handbag, backpack or luggage, which matters when you carry an umbrella with you almost every day. Their folded length, canopy size and opening mechanism, however, can vary considerably.

A lightweight umbrella does not have to be small
Weight and folded size are two different things. A short umbrella is easier to fit into a small bag, but it is not necessarily the lightest. Likewise, an umbrella weighing up to 300 g can still be longer than 25 cm when folded.
If space is the main concern, check the folded length first. If you simply want to carry less weight every day, the number of grams matters more.
The same applies to the canopy. Lightweight umbrellas come in different diameters, so two models with a similar weight can still provide noticeably different coverage from the rain.
When an umbrella under 200 g makes sense
The lightest models are particularly convenient when an umbrella stays in your bag “just in case” or travels with you in your carry-on luggage. If minimum weight is not the only priority and you also want a larger canopy, a comfortable handle or a particular opening mechanism, it makes sense to consider the full range up to 300 g.
Low weight does not automatically mean a fragile umbrella. Durability depends more on the materials and frame construction. For windy weather, it is worth checking the rib design and whether the manufacturer specifies a wind-resistant or anti-wind system.
Manual, automatic-open and automatic open-and-close umbrellas can all fall within the same weight range. It is therefore better to choose the opening mechanism based on how you prefer to use the umbrella rather than on its expected weight.
