Samsonite umbrellas are easy to carry in a bag, backpack or hand luggage. The models shown here fold into a cover and differ in weight, frame material, folded length and handle design. Some are better suited to buyers who want the lightest, most compact option, while others offer a larger canopy or a more classic look.
The page includes models from the Alu Drop S, Rain Pro and Wood Classic S ranges. Alu Drop S uses an aluminium frame and is relatively lightweight. Rain Pro features a steel construction. Wood Classic S is also a folding umbrella, but stands out with its wooden handle and more traditional styling.
How the frames differ
The Alu Drop S models shown here use aluminium for both the ribs and shaft. The more compact version folds down to 26 cm, weighs 240 g and has a 95 cm canopy. The larger model measures 28.5 cm when folded, weighs 310 g and has a 98 cm canopy.
The difference may look small on paper, but in everyday use 70 g and a few centimetres can matter, especially if the umbrella stays in a small bag or backpack most of the time.
Rain Pro models use steel ribs and a steel shaft. The models shown fold down to 28.5 cm, weigh 310 g and have a 98 cm canopy. Their overall size is close to the larger Alu Drop S models, with the main difference being the frame material.
When Wood Classic S is worth considering
Wood Classic S is easiest to recognise by its wooden handle. Among the models shown is a folding automatic version with a steel frame and a 97 cm canopy that folds down to 27 cm. There is also a longer 33 cm version with the same canopy diameter.
Those extra 6 cm can matter if the umbrella needs to fit into a narrow compartment in a briefcase, backpack or carry-on bag. If space is not an issue, the choice becomes more about appearance: the wooden handle gives Wood Classic S a noticeably more classic look than Alu Drop S and Rain Pro.
